Monday Blues Or Something More Serious?

It’s only mid-week and yet at their desks, many Canadians are following the advice of Loverboy and working for the weekend. According to a Harris-Decima poll, we hate our bosses and we’re calling in sick in record numbers.
While some employees blame it on the weather, the winter, or not enough sleep the night before, Julia Kennedy has a different idea. The career counselor from Everest College suggests that “you may need to change your job.”
It’s a solution so obvious it often goes overlooked. Yet as Kennedy points out, if you’re spending 8 hours a day someplace, you’d better enjoy it. But a large number of office drones don’t: 63% are blue at work, while 1 in 10 hate our bosses. And younger workers feel smarter than their immediate superior, which can lead to resentment.
But when do you know if you’re just bored with the daily grind, or if it’s more serious? The counselor suggests you should check if your job is affecting other parts of your life.
She urges workers to make sure we’ve “got the right career fit, that we’re happy, that we’re playing to our strengths, that we really enjoy what we’re doing, because that will spill over into your personal life if you’re continually unhappy….If you’re hating your job maybe four out of five days, it’s time to rethink your career choice.”
Who knows? A change in career could have you changing your tune. If you think one is in order, here are some places where you can get retraining.
