GO Transit Fares May Increase, Would Be First Hike In Two Years

It may cost you more the next time you take a ride on the GO.

GO Transit is looking at increasing its fares by about 15 cents per single ride adult fare, effective March 15.

It would be the transit company’s first price hike in two years if the board approves it this week. The higher cost amounts to about 2.7 per cent per ride and would also apply to GO’s discounted fares and multi-trip passes.

A trip from GO’s Oakville station to Union Station in Toronto would rise from $5.85 to an even $6, while a monthly pass would increase from $190 to $195.

Approximately 40 per cent of GO riders buy monthly passes, another 40 per cent buy 10-ride tickets, and the remaining 20 per cent buy single fares and day passes.

Most weekdays GO Transit carries about 205,000 riders between its 181 train trips and 1,814 bus trips.
