This article is more than 5 years old.
It’s a simple idea for a complicated problem.
A new fundraiser for Sick Kids Hospital wants you to donate the change from your couch to help many children with a variety of illnesses.
Katie Armstrong, a 9-year-old Sick Kid ambassador, wrote an email to CityNews to tell us about the hospital and the program, Change Crusaders.
“Sick Kids is the best place in the world. Kids just want to be able to be a regular kid again. I had to stop everything, sports, recess, everything while they were trying to figure out what was wrong with my heart and this rare condition I have will never go away unless I have a heart transplant.”
Katie has been a patient for 2 and a half years.
“I believe that kids can help to change the world and if everyone just donated a few coins we could help other kids who are Sick Kids patients now or could be patients in the future.”
Her email drew a lot of attention. She was featured on Breakfast Television Wednesday, where Kevin Frankish presented her and her family with hockey tickets.
On the website, Katie is Crusader #6. She’s raised just over $4000, and her goal is $5000.
The money doesn’t go directly to Katie – it supports the hospital’s Highest Priority Needs which includes things like equipment, research, patient amenities and specialized programs.
