Rob Ford Arrested For Assault And Threatening Death

Whatever led to charges against Toronto City Councillor Rob Ford apparently happened at his Etobicoke home. The controversial politician was arrested on Wednesday and charged with assault and threatening death.

CityNews has learned the incident allegedly involved Ford’s wife, who is reported to have brought the complaint that led to the charges. It’s not clear what form the alleged attack may have taken and none of the contentions have been proven in court.

Ford surrendered himself to 22 Division officers around 9:30am Wednesday and was later released on a promise to appear in court April 28th. He’s so far refused all comment on the case and won’t say what it’s about. Cops have also been tight lipped about what happened and won’t confirm any details.

“They are allegations.  We deny anything happened,” said Ford’s lawyer Denis Morris.  “We will plead not guilty to all charges.”

In the meantime, Ford will continue to work at City Hall.

“Because they are innocent until proven guilty, they continue to sit as a councillor,” confirms City of Toronto spokesperson Brad Ross.  “There is nothing to prohibit a city councillor from continuing to do their job as a councillor pending a trial.”

Ford is something of a lone wolf at City Hall, constantly haranguing his fellow councillors about their spending and trying to reduce their numbers. He recently stirred up a hornet’s nest with his comments over the work habits of Asians. Many in the community have demanded a blanket public apology, which the Etobicoke North councillor has steadfastly refused to issue.
