We’re finally learning what may be the real story behind a mysterious double shooting that left two men wounded, police hunting for a 7-year-old boy and a father under arrest for attempted murder. It unfolded Tuesday in an apartment building at 1765 Lawrence Ave. E.
Police contend the victims came to the unit in the afternoon after having an argument with 40-year-old Clement Serjue (top left). The father of little Calvin Richardson was inside the residence, along with the boy’s mother and another man, Troy Harris. At some point in their rehash of the previous fight, tempers boiled over again and this time, cops allege Serjue became enraged. He’s accused of pulling out a gun, aiming it straight at the two visitors and pulling the trigger.
Moments later, chaos erupted as the badly wounded men ran out of the apartment and into their car. But their wounds were serious and in their pain and panic, one drove their escape vehicle straight into a tree outside the complex, where it remained after police arrived.
At that point, the case took a new twist when Serjue and his son mysteriously vanished. It was feared the youngster witnessed what happened.
For over 24 long hours, officers searched for the child, fearing for his safety and issuing his picture to the media pleading for more information.
Around 7pm Wednesday night, the massive manhunt came to an end right where it had begun – Serjue and the boy were discovered a few floors up in the same building where they’d gone missing the day before. The youngster wasn’t physically harmed.
Calvin was temporarily turned over to the Children’s Aid Society but it may be a long time before Serjue goes home. Both he and Harris have been charged with attempted murder and the father was also slapped with weapons offences stemming from Tuesday’s incident.
Crown Attorney Phillip Tsui and the Guns and Gangs Task Force have jointly requested a three-day remand so police can continue their investigation into this complicated case.
Harris appeared in a Scarborough court Thursday, and will have his bail hearing on Friday. Serjue will be back before the bench on Monday.
It’s still not clear what sparked the initial argument that may have led to the carnage.
