Vandals have defaced the tomb of former prime minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau.
Quebec provincial police say the words `FLQ’ and `traitor’ were painted in black on the Trudeau family mausoleum in Saint-Remi, Que., south of Montreal.
Police spokesman Sgt. Gregory Gomez del Prado would not say how police were notified.
He says there have been no arrests and police have launched an investigation.
Trudeau made enemies in Quebec in October 1970 by invoking the War Measures Act during the FLQ crisis, when a British diplomat and a Quebec cabinet minister were kidnapped. The minister, Pierre Laporte, was killed.
Trudeau, who served as Canada’s prime minister from 1968-79 and 1980-84, died in September 2000 at age 80.
