One man is dead and another individual was seriously hurt following a crash on Highway 7 in Vaughan.
A black Ford Explorer and a black Chevrolet Cavalier collided at about 12:50pm Monday in the highway’s eastbound lanes just east of Bathurst St.
The Cavalier driver, a 47-year-old Orangeville man, was pronounced dead at the scene despite the efforts of a quick-to-act York police officer.
“One of our officers arrived first on scene and began CPR before Emergency Medical Services arrived,” noted Supt. Tony Cummins.
York officers closed Highway 7 between Bathurst St. and Hunterspoint Rd. during the crash investigation. They’re probing whether the Cavalier may have been stopped at the side of the road and rear-ended by the SUV. There’s still no word on charges.
Anyone who witnessed what occurred is asked to contact York investigators at 1-866-876-5423, ext 7703 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
