Autopsy Results Confirm Worst Suspicions In DeLong Triple-Murder Suicide

A tragedy most already knew the victims in opened a new chapter Sunday when results of autopsies on four bodies pulled from a Scarborough home last week were confirmed as Keith DeLong, his wife, son and daughter.

What was initially thought by police to be a quadruple homicide was later ruled a triple-murder suicide and as much was reaffirmed Sunday.

Results of the four weekend autopsies revealed Wanda DeLong, 64, Richard DeLong, 38, and Elizabeth Tompkins, 41, were all killed from stab wounds to the torso.

Keith, the 66-year-old husband and father, was deemed dead from a gunshot wound to the head.

A final word on the long-suspected identities only added to the shock neighbours have been experiencing for days.

“Absolute disbelief,” said Peter Lemonides. “I can’t believe Keith’s the kind of guy that would do something like that … shocking.”

The release is the latest episode in a brutal and bizarre case that’s captivated a city and mystified the very police who were first called to the house at 12 Welwyn Avenue to find a sign on the door that chillingly read, “Do not enter. Call police.”

“I saw the sign on the door the day that it happened when I saw the son-in-law driving up and down the street,” Lemonides recalls.

Investigators later headed to the Whitby home of Tompkins’ common-law husband who first called them to the scene. He was questioned and eventually released.

There’s been much speculation and little certainty about what led to the bloodshed.

Some have speculated the family’s collective health was in decline, while others have suggested the DeLongs were experiencing growing financial trouble.

Detectives have offered little one way or the other and the fact is, the truth may never be known.
