Toll Rates For Cars On Highway 407 Up In 2009, New Fees Added

Drive a car on Highway 407? Prepare to pay more for the privilege in 2009.

Effective Feb. 1, peak-hour rates for vehicles will jump as much as 0.6 cents to 19.85 cents per kilometre.

The good news? The rest of the time the price will stick at its current level.

But in addition to the tolls, there will be an added fee of 25 cents for each trip for cars, with heavy vehicles shelling out 50 cents more per use and tractor-trailers 75 cents every drive.

Customers without transponders will see the video toll charge and account fees fall slightly, while other customers will pay a nickel less for their transponder lease.

The highway’s operated by 407 ETR, which says the changes are intended to keep traffic moving while maintaining affordable rates.

There’s also been a promise of more than $70 million to be spent on new lanes in 2009.
