Cops Release Composite Sketch Of Suspect In Cold Murder Case Of Community Activist

It is a case that has baffled police and left friends of a 41-year-old Toronto man fighting for justice for more than a year.

Julian Hinckson was the last man anyone would have pegged for a murder victim. He was known as a community activist and a gentle man, the kind of guy who fixed broken bikes for kids in his neighbourhood.

And then on the night of June 6, 2007, the father of nine left his Finch and Leslie-area home for just a moment to move his car. When minutes turned to hours and he didn’t return, his family became worried and then frantic.

They called police but there was no sign of him. The next morning, a man walking his dog near the Cummer GO station stumbled on Hinckson’s badly injured body. An autopsy showed he’d been stabbed to death. But who targeted him and why has remained a mystery ever since.

Cops probing the case were stymied by silence from the neighbourhood, with many residents apparently too fearful to offer up any useful information.

But now there may be something of a break in this cold case of cold hearted murder. Toronto Police have issued a composite drawing of a suspect in the killing (pictured above).  It’s a breakthrough that’s followed more than 20 long months of intense investigation.

Police believe the wanted man may go by the name of ‘Fugee’.   He’s black, stands about six feet tall, and weighs in around 200 pounds.  Detectives admit he may not have worked alone, but haven’t released any info regarding a second suspect.

“These types of  investigations are solved largely by the community,” admits Det. Doug Sansom. “We depend on their information and so come forward and we can talk about whatever fears they have and perhaps we can relieve those fears.”

Anyone with information as to the identity of the person is asked to contact police at 416-808-7400, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477), online at http://www.222tips.com/, or text TOR and your message to CRIMES (274637).
