A mysterious fire in Waterloo has sparked a potential homicide investigation.
Police confirmed Thursday that three family members – a couple and their adult son – were found inside the fiery wreckage of the home a night earlier. Neighbours say the flames swept through the house extremely quickly.
“It was scary, it just got really big really fast,” said neighbour Courtney Norman.
“It was rather unnerving,” added contractor Dan Stewart. “There was a pile of smoke, flame was billowing out all over the place.”
And yet there could be much more to this already tragic tale.
The home at 589 Wingrove Ct. is now a crime scene. And while police haven’t determined how the trio died, names have been released.
The victims are identified as John Eaton, 64, his wife Linda, 61 and son Daniel, 23.
“We have a number of unanswered questions, so we’re keeping all options open,” said Waterloo Police Insp. Steve Beckett.
Officials say damage to the home is estimated at $500,000. The Fire Marshal’s waiting for a search warrant to enter in order to figure out how the suspicious fire was ignited.
The family reportedly lived in the home for about seven years but many neighbours on the quiet cul-de-sac say they didn’t really know the Eatons, who kept to themselves.
“They mowed their lawn and they put out their garbage but I have never spoken to them,” Norman added.
