Brampton Man Charged In His Mother’s Murder

A Brampton man has been charged with his mother’s murder.

Justin Lima was arrested on Monday after the body of 59-year-old Fatima Lima was discovered in the afternoon in a home at 2 Cornwall Road in the Clarence and Kennedy area of Brampton.

Peel Regional Police deemed her death a murder and issued an all-points-bulletin for the 28-year-old, who was reportedly seen speeding off in a van hours after the deceased was found.

Peel officers received information from the OPP that a suspect matching Lima’s description was accused of carjacking a GMC panel van with Quebec licence plates near Port Hope. With the help of several jurisdictions, the suspect was arrested in Pickering. Durham cops took him into custody and turned him over to authorities in Peel Region.

One area resident noted that Lima had lost his job recently and was feeling depressed, though they couldn’t say what might have happened in the house. Lima is married with a daughter and his wife is reportedly expecting a second child.

The 28-year-old, who has been charged with second degree murder, made a brief court appearance Tuesday where he stood surrounded by five guards and had one arm of his prison jumper ripped off. The Crown requested a Form 48 – a mental health assessment and Lima ‘s lawyer, Anthony Ciale, did not challenge the request.

The death of Fatima Lima marks Peel Region’s fifth murder of 2009.
