It was just after noon on Wednesday when Ciscilyn Kirby got a call from her son.
The 24-year-old told her news no mother wants to hear. He had been shot and he needed her to come home. She found him slumped over on the porch at 1310 Fieldlight Blvd.
“He was breathing, he was conscious, but he would not talk,” described Kirby (pictured).
“It looked pretty, pretty, bad. He got shot in the neck, in the ears,” she added.
Incredibly, the young man had the strength to dial 911. He was taken by air ambulance to St Michael’s Hospital where he remains in critical condition.
Four schools in the area, near Liverpool Rd and Finch Ave., were locked down for about an hour as a precaution.
Durham Regional Police searched the neighbourhood for suspects but so far, none has been found. There’s also no word on a motive.
It appears that the victim answered his doorbell and was met by a volley of bullets.
“This is very, you know, unreal, for someone to just come knock on the door. And normally he doesn’t open the door,” outlined family friend Leon Lewis.
“He has been through a lot and I just hope that he recovers because he needs to find another way in life,” Kirby said.
“I just hope he makes it through.”
