Troubles Continue For Vaughan Mayor

The hits just keep on coming for embattled Vaughan mayor Linda Jackson.

Two days after city council decided to pursue charges against her husband and campaign manager, Mario Campese, she herself is facing new allegations.

According to published reports, Jackson had her office swept for bugs at taxpayers’ expense.

The bill came in at nearly $3,000 and many residents aren’t pleased.

It’s a practice borrowed from her predecessor Michael DiBiase.

On Monday, Campese was accused of violating the Municipal Elections Act while he was the campaign manager for Jackson’s successful leadership bid.

An audit last year allegedly showed the mayor went over her campaign budget by more than $12,000. Members have also questioned the funding source behind two newspaper ads during Jackson’s campaign.

Jackson beat DiBiase by a narrow margin of 90 votes in the 2006 election.

Campese and Jackson celebrate her 2006 victory.
