Mexico City Hit By Earthquake

In a place where so much is going wrong, it’s the last thing they needed. An earthquake rocked Mexico City Monday, one of the areas most affected by the swine flu outbreak.

The shaker measured 5.6 on the Richter scale and was centred near Chilpancingo, 210 kilometres southwest of the metropolis and just 80 kilometres from the resort of Acapulco.

Hundreds of workers were sent spilling into the deserted streets of the city, left empty by fears over the flu.

Mexico has already been hurt by the outbreak that has left it at the centre of the world’s attention and facing travel warnings from a large number of countries. So far, the death toll stands at 149 people, but only 20 are confirmed to be from the swine flu.
