Police have officially confirmed that the body pulled out of the Toronto Harbour Thursday morning is Mason MacPhail.
Investigators reported that they had discovered a corpse in the eastern portion of the channel near Polson Pier on Thursday morning, but a positive identification wasn’t made until several hours later
MacPhail went missing after a concert at the Sound Academy Tuesday night . Police have now revealed that the 16-year-old from the Peterborough area was involved in a confrontation inside the venue and was escorted out by security. That was the last time he was seen.
“Mason was escorted from the club,” Det. Sgt., Howie Page confirms. “It has gone from a missing persons investigation into an active investigation at this point in other directions.”
“It’s awful, I have two sons myself, it’s awful. We want positive news, it’s not a good day.”
There’s no word on how the teen ended up dead in the water, but results of an autopsy should shed some light on the tragedy.
Meanwhile, there’s still no sign of 19-year-old Shane Fair. The York University student disappeared after a formal dance at Ontario Place on May 16.
