Rogers Centre Welcomes Kids At Their Best

If it seems like kids today aren’t getting enough time outside – either at home or in schools – you’re right.

School-age children are supposed to be getting at least 90 minutes of physical activity a day, but many of them aren’t meeting that minimum requirement.

Blame it on funding cutbacks or an increase on indoor activities – but whatever the reason, the problem remains.

It also coincides with an increase in childhood obesity. Across Canada, a quarter of kids are overweight or obese.

Enter At My Best. The company promotes physical fitness and healthy eating for students in kindergarten and up to Grade Three.

It launched in October 2008 and the program is now available in 1,000 schools across the country, in both English and French language.

They hope to add an additional 1,000 schools each year.

As part of normal curriculum, students will learn about physical activity, healthy eating and emotional well-being.

Rogers Media recently joined At My Best as a presenting partner. At My Best was founded by pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca and Physical and Health Education Canada.

“We are thrilled to work with AstraZeneca Canada and PHE Canada on this important program,” Brian Segal, President, Rogers Publishing Limited outlined.

“We have always had a genuine commitment to the community and this joint venture is especially gratifying as we have joined forces with AstraZeneca, to forge a partnership that will better serve our own constituency.”
