Fire Breaks Out At Recycling Facility In Oshawa

Firefighters in Oshawa were called out to a blaze that broke out at a recycling facility.

Flames erupted from the structure at about 9am and firefighters were quickly called to the Fairwell St. and Harbour Rd. area, in the south end of the city, to bring it under control.

Within an hour they’d knocked down the bulk of the fire though there was still a lot of smoke coming from the building.

The fire broke out in a large storage area for recycling that is attached to a now-abandoned sugar refinery.

Smaller businesses in the area were evacuated due to the heavy smoke.

There are no residences in the area and no reports of injuries.

It’s not clear what started the blaze.
