Suspected Abduction Has Family Fearing Worst

It was Saturday when Furqan Muhammad-Haroon made an ominous phone call to a relative, saying his van was being followed by three men in another car.  One of the men had a gun, he nervously relayed, and they were forcing him off the road near Midland and Ellesmere.

The 22-year-old U of T Engineering student hasn’t been heard from since, and police are now considering the case an abduction after his car was found abandoned not far from where he said he was being forced off the road.

Just over a week before he disappeared the popular student had his own troubles with the law.  He was arrested by York Regional Police for allegedly stealing computer equipment from IBM.

It’s not clear what if anything that has to do with his disappearance. Police say no ransom demands have been made.

“He is a lovely boy,” his emotional father Haroon Muhammad said Monday.  “Everybody loves him in the community, and all his friends they love him.”

“I don’t know what is his condition now, I don’t know if he’s alive, now it’s 48 hours, I know Toronto Police is doing their best, we appeal to all of you and all Canadians, please come forward, if you know anything about my boy, my son, please help us, we want him back.”

Friends say Furqan was supposed to fly to the United Arab Emirates on Saturday and may have been on his way to the airport when he vanished.
