Weekend To End Breast Cancer Raises More Than $11 Million

People from all over the GTA laced up on Saturday for part one of the Weekend to End Breast Cancer.

More than 4,600 people gathered for the 30-kilometre walk in memory and support of loved ones or simply to do their part in finding a cure.

“I was diagnosed with breast cancer and I thought it was important to come out, support everyone and find a cure for this horrible disease,” noted Karen Hepburn.

Since the walk began, GTA donors have contributed close to $100 million for breast cancer research, clinical enhancement and the first survivorship program in Canada.

This year, participants have already raised $11.6 million, more than $20,000 of that from the Citytv team.

“The amount of walking – it’s work. A lot of these women are sick. They’re struggling, battling the disease. They’re here. So I am proud of them,” said CityLine host Tracy Moore.

Those doing the second day will camp in Downsview Park for the night, before walking another 30 kilometres on Sunday.

The trek ends at Exhibition Place, and will not cause any road closures or TTC diversions.
