The son of NHL legend Patrick Roy has been given an absolute discharge after pleading guilty Wednesday to an on-ice assault.
Judge Valmont Beaulieu handed down Jonathan Roy’s sentence this afternoon in Saguenay, about 250 kilometres north of Quebec City.
Roy entered the guilty plea this morning and said he showed a lack of judgment when he attacked a rival goaltender in March 2008.
The 20-year-old Roy wanted the absolute discharge because it would allow him to travel to the United States to pursue his new career as a singer.
The Crown did not oppose the request.
Roy also offered a $5,000 cheque to charity.
