Stop-Work Orders Previously Issued At Site Of Fatal Scaffolding Collapse That Left Four Men Dead

Stop-work orders had previously been issued at the site of a fatal scaffolding collapse that left four men dead, the Ministry of Labour revealed on Thursday.

At least eight citations had been given to Metron Construction Inc., and two of them were stop-work orders.

Four migrant workers were killed on Christmas Eve after their swing stage broke and they plummeted 13 storeys to the ground. A fifth man remains in intensive care.

One of the stop-work orders had been lifted just one week before the men died.

Joel Swartz, the president of Metron, says that in Metron’s 23 years of operation it has never been charged with any violation of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
