Prime Minister Stephen Harper to spend two days in post-quake Haiti

Stephen Harper is set to become the first head of government to visit Haiti since the country was decimated by an earthquake.
During a two-day tour that begins tomorrow, the prime minister will inspect efforts by the Canadian Forces to help rebuild the shattered Caribbean country.
Harper is expected to land in the capital of Port-au-Prince Monday afternoon aboard a military transport plane.
The prime minister will then head to Gov. Gen. Michaelle Jean’s ancestral hometown, Jacmel, and from there to Leogane, a key hub of Canadian activity.
No other head of government has visited since the Jan. 12 tremor, as politicians worried their presence might disrupt emergency operations.
Until Harper’s surprise announcement today, French President Nicolas Sarkozy had been expected to become the first such visitor during a scheduled trip next Wednesday.
