Leafs Forward Grabovski Released From Custody After Vancouver Fight

In town to cheer on Belarus’s Olympic hockey team, Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mikhail Grabovski found himself in a Vancouver prison early Saturday morning following a bar fight.

Few details have been revealed about the incident, but it reportedly grew out of an altercation on the street. The 26-year-old was taken into custody around 2:30am and released to his parents hours later.

“Our hockey club is aware of reports that forward Mikhail Grabovski was involved in a minor altercation in Vancouver early Saturday morning,” Leafs general manager Brian Burke said in a statement.

“Since we are presently investigating this matter, the team will not provide any further comment at this time.”

Police are still looking into the incident and there’s no word yet on charges.

Grabovski broke his wrist during an NHL game on January 2, which has not only kept him out of the Leafs lineup, but also has meant he cannot play for Belarus during the Olympics.

Belarus beat Germany 5-3 on Saturday night.
