Canada’s Cheryl Bernard Settles For Olympic Silver After Up-And-Down Women’s Curling Final

Canada’s Cheryl Bernard will have to settle for silver after losing the women’s curling final at the Vancouver Olympics.

The 43-year-old Calgary skip dropped a 7-6 decision to defending Olympic champion Anette Norberg of Sweden. Bernard had a 6-4 lead heading into the 10th end and had a chance to clinch the gold with a simple takeout.

But Bernard couldn’t remove Norberg’s stone and the Swede drew for two to force an extra end.

Bernard had another chance to win in the 11th but missed on a double-takeout attempt.

Bernard had been trying to become the first Canadian women’s skip to win Olympic gold since Sandra Schmirler in 1998.
