Talking About Cooking (and Life) With Dilip Mehta

Deepa Mehta is a world-renowned filmmaker who has directed such films as Sam & Me, Heaven on Earth, and the Oscar-nominated Water. Her brother Dilip took a different route in life as a photojournalist covering the Ghandi family and the Bhopal chemical disaster for magazines like National Geographic, Time and Newsweek. They’ve finally teamed up to co-write Cooking With Stella — a film about a cook (Seema Biswas) in the Canadian High Commission in New Delhi who has her cozy position turned upside down when the new Canadian family moves in, and to her surprise, the husband (Don McKellar) is a stay-at-home dad who is also a chef. Dilip wanted to co-direct the film with his sister as well but ended up taking that role on himself, his first time directing a work of fiction.

CityNews.ca recently spoke with Dilip about the film, what inspires him, and whether he can cook or not. Watch the full interview below.

Cooking With Stella opens in theatres on March 19. More info on the film can be found at cookingwithstella.com.
