Durham Homicide Detectives announced, Thursday, that there is a connection between the explosives uncovered Wednesday evening in a storage facility on Progress Avenue in Scarborough, and a double murder last year.
Police became aware of the explosives while investigating the deaths of Harjinder Singh Sandhu, 28, and Puneet Singh Chhina, 26.
The bodies of the two men were discovered in the trunk of a vehicle in a Pickering parking lot in May 2009.
A Markham man and Burnaby, BC man were arrested earlier this year in connection with the double homicide.
Police transported those explosives to the Leslie Street Spit Thursday evening, forcing the temporary shutdown of the SRT, Don Valley Parkway, and parts of the Gardiner Expressway.
Nearby residents said they could hear the blast from the controlled explosion.
Anyone who can assist detectives with the possible connections between the storage locker and the Sandhu/Chhina case is asked to contact Detective Mitch Martin of the DRPS Homicide Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 3270. Anonymous information can be sent to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (8477) and tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.
