Final arguments in the extradition case against Abdullah Khadr wrapped up in a Toronto courtroom on Friday.
Khadr’s lawyer said sending his client to the United States would only reward countries for violating the law, and that his client’s self-incriminating statements were the product of torture during detention in Pakistan.
However, the crown wants the 28 year old Khadr sent south to face terrorism related charges.
28 year old Khadr, who was born in Toronto, is wanted in the U.S. for allegedly buying weapons for Al Qaeda.
He was arrested in Toronto shortly after his return from Pakistan, where he had spent a total of 14 months behind bars. There, he was taken into custody following a U.S. $500,000 bounty American Intelligence agents placed on him.
In Toronto, Khadr has been in prison since December 2005.
The crown is expected to make its case on Thursday.
