TORONTO, Ont. – Nike has begun airing a television commercial Wednesday featuring Tiger Woods and the voice of his late father, in an edgy move that exposes his personal issues the night before his return to competitive golf.
The ad was set to air on ESPN and the Golf Channel only one day before the Masters began, Thursday, and can be seen on YouTube.
The 30-second spot was filmed in black and white, with Woods staring directly into the camera without saying a word. Only the voice of his father is heard, who speaks about taking responsibility.
Earl Woods’ main question is: “Did you learn anything?”
Woods return to golf following a several month leave after his infidelities came to light. He spent some of the time in sex rehab.
Nike has been one of the few sponsors to stand by Woods throughout the ordeal.
