6.1-magnitude earthquake hits Chile

A major earthquake has hit Chile.

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.1 has struck about 65 kilometres south of Concepcion, Chile, the U.S. Geological Survey reported Friday.

There has been no word yet on damage or injuries.

In February, an 8.8-magnitude quake hit the same region, leaving 1.5-million people homeless.
