DVP Gets A Spring Cleaning

The Don Valley Parkway is shut down this weekend, to allow for annual spring maintenance. The highway closed to traffic at 2 a.m. on Saturday and is scheduled to re-open at 5 a.m. on Monday.

The closure will allow crews to repaint lines on the road, inspect and fix signs, and clear catch basins. In addition, transportation ministry crews are also beginning work for a colour electronic message board to replace the existing one south of Highway 401.

Of course, this closure comes during a busy weekend in the city.

The Green Living Show is going on all weekend long at the Direct Energy Centre.

Sunday will see the annual Khalsa Day Parade. The Sikh tradition is always a big turnout, drawing 60-70, 000 people. The parade starts at 2 p.m. at the CNE grounds and heads to Queen’s Park.

Toronto FC is also in action Sunday at BMO field. Alternate routes into the city, Victoria Park Avenue, Don Mills Road and Bayview Avenue will be busier than usual.
