Hockey fans are saying merci beaucoup Montreal, it was fun while it lasted.
The Canadiens’ run for the Stanley Cup ended last night with a 4-2 loss to Philadelphia, losing the series 4-1 Monday night.
The Habs even managed to convert some die hard Leaf fans.
After beating Washington and Pittsburgh, it seemed the Habs just ran out of gas. Flyers captain Mike Richards is pumped about the win but knows there will still be a hard road ahead.
“Hopefully we have a little bit of a Cinderella story at the end here. It’s going to be tough, we’ve got to prepare for Chicago now but this feels really good.” said Richards.
But the Canadian Stanley Cup story is not completely over. Canadian players will take up a lot of space on the ice when the final finally begins.
Between Chicago and Philadelphia, it is close to a tie when it comes to Canadian hockey talent, with 13 canucks on one team and the other with 14.
The first game of the final is not until Saturday which, according to former Leafs GM and FAN590 morning show host Gord Stellick says, may be a painful wait for hockey fans.
“It’s brutal for fans. You want to keep the rhythm going, and it’s a bit of a way for players who like to keep the rhythm going, but right now the way these teams have been playing, they need a break.” said Stellick.
If Chicago takes the Cup, the Leafs will become the team with the longest Stanley Cup drought.
