More than a year and a half after he was murdered, police have made an arrest in the death of Kamal Hercules, 21.
Fayisa Ahmed Ibrahim, 23 was arrested Wednesday and charged with first degree murder.
Hercules was shot to death standing outside the Rabba grocery store at Sherbourne and Front Streets shortly before 4am, September 5, 2009. Someone approached him from behind and started firing.
In February police announced a $50, 000 reward for information leading to an arrest in Hercules’ murder. Just over a week later, they announced they had recovered the murder weapon saying they were closing in on the suspected killer.
“We don’t believe this was a random shooting,” Const. Tony Vella told CityNews.ca. “We believe that the victim and the shooter are known to each other.”
Ibrahim is scheduled to appear in court Thursday at the College park courthouse.
Police are continuing their investigation, to uncover who disposed of the murder weapon.
