Air Traffic Controllers Pull for a Cure

TORONTO, Ont. – Air traffic controllers will Pull for a Cure at Pearson Airport this morning.
This is the first ever Pull for a Cure. The fundraiser for cancer research is made up of NAV Canada Air Traffic Controllers in Toronto. They have attempted to pull their flight inspection airplane for one continuous mile at Toronto’s Lester B. Pearson International Airport.
“We had the opportunity in November to do a little practice run on the runway and I got to tell you we didn’t go for the full mile. It was just a training session. I’ve done 10K runs; I’ve done triathlons; I’ve done strength training, [but] this is, by far, the hardest thing I’ve ever attempted,” lead coordinator Stephen Stanley said.
The event was inspired by the team’s friend and former co-worker Eric Paraskevopoulos, who died of cancer in late 2008.
The team hopes to raise $100,000 in support of the Canadian Cancer Society.
Tickets are still being sold for the event. Prices are $10 per person or $30 for a family of four. Wristbands can be picked up at the registration desk located inside the Maintenance Hangar after 10:30 a.m.
