Salad Recalled Due To Possible E. coli Contamination

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is warning consumers not to eat Fresh Express brand Romaine lettuce-based salads because they may be contaminated with E. coli bacteria.
A recall by the manufacturer, California-based Fresh Express Inc., prompted the CFIA to issue its own alert, although no one has reported becoming sick.
The products – with best-before dates of July 9 to 12 and an “S” in the product code – were distributed in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec.
Food contaminated with E. coli may not look or smell spoiled, but can cause serious and even life-threatening illnesses. Symptoms include severe abdominal pain and bloody diarrhea. Some people may have seizures or strokes and some may need blood transfusions and kidney dialysis. Others may have permanent kidney damage. In severe cases, people may die.
The CFIA says it will make sure Canadian importers remove all of the affected products from the marketplace.
