Interpol rounds up thousands in World Cup gambling bust

Interpol has rounded up over 5,000 people in an operation aimed at illegal World Cup gambling.

The month long investigation uncovered illegal gambling linked to organized crime across Asia.

Police raided hundreds of betting dens during the World Cup, and dealt with bets of over $155 million. They also confiscated bank cards, computers and cell phones.

Interpol said the materials will be reviewed and analyzed to determine the potential involvement of other individuals or gangs across the region, and beyond.

Media were unable to reach China’s Ministry of Public Security on Friday, after calls went unanswered.
