B.C. blueberries hit store shelves despite cool spring

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A cool spring only slightly delayed the blooming of the berries.

Production was looking like it was going to be early for a while, says Debbie Etsell with B.C. Blueberry Council. “And then with the early spring being very cold and wet, it put us back a bit. So we generally expect to have blueberries about the middle of July, but sometimes we can have them at the beginning of the month as well.”

Etsell says they’re on store shelves now and will be there for people to enjoy until September. She adds purchasing local berries helps to support your local farmers.
