H1N1 vaccinations averted one million potential cases: Study

TORONTO, Ont. – The Swine Flu vaccination program helped avert one million potential cases of the illness, and prevented as many as 50 deaths in Ontario.
A new study revealed that there could have been thousands of visits to the doctor and the emergency ward across Ontario had the shot not been offered.
It also noted that despite the total cost ringing in at $180 million, the program was cost effective.
The study was done by a health economist with the Ontario Agency of Health Protection and Promotion, and was published in the journal Vaccine.
