The key to happiness is to stay busy, according to new research.
However the same study suggests, we’re hard-wired to be lazy in order to save energy.
Scientists in Chicago asked students to complete two surveys and made them wait 15 minutes in between.
They were offered a choice between handing in the first survey nearby, or to a more distant location they’d have to walk to.
Sixty-eight per cent chose the lazy option.
But those who took the walk reported feeling happier than those who stayed put.
The study’s lead author advises people to get up and do something — even if it’s completely pointless — and you’ll feel better for it.
