Does the mayor deserve a pay hike?
Toronto’s mayor currently earns $167,769.94 before benefits, which is less than counterparts in Mississauga, Ottawa, Calgary, Edmonton and Montreal.
A recent report released by Hay Group, a global management consulting firm, suggests the city’s top politician deserves a 9.4 per cent pay increase, putting the annual salary up to $183,604.
The Hay Group suggests the increase should come into effect on Dec. 1, 2010 – the day Toronto’s new mayor would be sworn in.
City councillors currently earn $99,620 – a fair salary, according to the group, which doesn’t warrant an increase.

But, it notes, politicians are entitled to the same cost-of-living increases the city’s management and non-unionized employees receive, according to a report in the Globe and Mail.
