TORONTO, Ont. – With two months to go before the next Toronto mayor is elected, it appears the campaign daggers are coming out.
The George Smitherman team has launched a website that urges voters to have a closer look at his main rival Rob Ford through a website that highlights some of the councillor’s low points on city council.
The site, called fordonford.com, is designed to remind people of what Ford was thinking before he thought about running for mayor.
It features YouTube clips of Ford in action at city council on issues that range from bike lanes to homeless shelter bylaws.
“This is a bylaw opening the door to make every ward have a shelter. That’s the black and white of the issue here, ok, I’m sorry to say, this is an insult to my constituents to even think of having a homeless shelter in their ward,” Ford is heard saying in one clip.
The site also gives people a chance to send electronic postcards of Ford quotes to their friends while carrying a warning that the language may be offensive.
Ford has brushed off the attack, telling 680News he has better things to worry about.
“Actually I’ve only heard about it, I haven’t even gotten on to look at it, I’m so busy returning people’s phone calls and running a campaign that I’m not worried about what my opponents are doing or saying,” Ford said.
Meanwhile, Mayor David Miller has joined the chorus of outrage over Ford’s claim of widespread corruption at city hall.
Miller said if there is a single piece of corruption evidence, Ford should take it to the authorities.
