City Hall is fighting one of its own after councillor (and mayoral candidate) Rob Ford said the municipal body is corrupt.
Ford told the Toronto Sun that a recent, untendered contract for a restaurant at Ashbridge’s Bay “stinks to high heaven.” Ford also said that City Hall in-camera meetings – where the media aren’t allowed – are dishonest.
“That’s one of the most irresponsible things I’ve ever heard an elected official say,” Mayor David Miller responded.
“I think it’s disgusting,” he added.
Miller says if Ford has any evidence of something he should report it to the city’s auditor general or integrity commissioner.
Ford has not done either.
The 20-year contract was awarded to Tuggs, Inc, which operates the Boardwalk Pub.
Meanwhile, mayoral candidate George Smitherman is taking his campaign in a different direction.
He and his team recently launched the website Ford On Ford, which has a few key statements that Rob Ford has made over the years.
In addition to a rotating gallery of embarrassing quotes – including Ford’s assertion that only gay people and people who use needles get AIDS – there are also YouTube videos.
Visitors to the site can also send faux-promotional postcards to their friends.
