A United States company has issued a voluntary recall for their baby hammocks.
Some of them were sold in Canada through the company’s website.
Health Canada is warning parents and guardians not to use hammocks from Mama Little Helper (pictured above).
There are fears children could suffocate in the affected models due to an inclined sleeping surface. Infants could roll and become wedged into a position where they can no longer breathe.
The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission began the recall on August 24.
The affected model numbers are 1010, 1020 and BL222.
The products were sold online at www.mamalittlehelper.com from May 2008 through February 2010 for between $100 and $230.
Consumers should not attempt to fix these products themselves and should stop using them immediately. The hammocks should then be disassembled and disposed of in such a way that it can not be reused.
If you find a retailer that is selling this type of product, please contact Health Canada 1-866-662-0666.
Health Canada recommends that children under six years of age not be placed in any hammock as infants and young children are susceptible to considerable fall, strangulation, and suffocation hazards.
