Calling a cab in Toronto could cost you more than expected if you pay with your credit card.
The CBC has reported three companies — Co-op Cabs, Maple Leaf Taxi and Crown Taxi charge transaction fees of up to a buck a ride when people use their plastic to pay.
Mastercard Canada was unaware of the fee and so was the director of Toronto’s licensing and standards division, Bruce Robertson.
Robertson said anyone who was charged the fee should contact the city to complain and cab companies who charge more than the fare displayed on the meter will be fined.
