Canadians packing bags, booking tropical getaways

As summer comes to an end, now is apparently a good time to pack your bags for a trip.

And the early numbers indicate Canadians are anxious to get out of town when the snow flies.

Too many recession-related “staycations” have people antsy for a an island in the sun.

According to the Association Of Canadian Travel Agencies, advanced sales for the winter season are up by about 35 per cent.

Spokesperson Richard Vanderlubbe said this year there are deals for those booking early.

“For November through April, we’re showing a 35 per cent increase in the number of people booked compared to last year,” Vanderlubbe said.

He said it usually takes a cold snap or a snow fall to jump start business in January.

You can get a four-star just about anywhere in the Carribbean for around $700.
