McCallion Won’t Debate Other Candidates In Mayor Campaign

It seems like there’s only one horse in the race to become Mississauga’s next mayor, but there are 17 candidates listed on the city’s website

And 16 of them are furious that front-runner Hazel McCallion won’t participate in any debates. In fact, McCallion won’t be running a campaign at all.

McCallion has held the position since 1978 and is Canada’s longest-serving mayor. She’s gunning for a 12th term on October 25.

Currently, though, she’s facing a judicial inquiry for her alleged conflict of interest in a land deal involving her son Peter.

The other 16 candidates will be holding a news conference on Thursday to address McCallion’s silence.
