One day after Citytv.com launched a primetime video app for the iPad, it became the most popular free app in Canada.
The country’s first Primetime video app for Apple’s tablet held the number-one spot on iTunes Canada on Tuesday.
“Landing the top spot on iTunes Canada for iPad downloads, clearly confirms that audiences want access to content on multiple screens at their convenience,” said Claude Galipeau, SVP & GM, Digital Media, Rogers Media Inc.
“This overwhelming response by Canadians validates Rogers strategy and its leadership of providing new entertainment solutions for audiences.”
The application – yes, it’s free – will feature popular hit shows such as The Event, 30 Rock, Modern Family and How I Met Your Mother. Full-length programs and short clips also will be available.
You can also watch local favourites CityLine and Breakfast Television Toronto, check out the TV schedule, and sign up for a notification service that will tell you when your favourite shows are on-air and on the app.
The app will also remember favourite shows and allow you to browse your viewing history. Other features include the ability to share video links on Facebook, Twitter and via email.
“How Canadians interact with traditional television is evolving. They want to watch their favourite shows when and where they want to on their preferred device – whether it’s a television, smartphone or a tablet,” Galipeau added.
Earlier this year, Citytv launched its “Shorts in the City” application for the iPad, with a collection of web exclusive content produced expressly for online viewing.
The iPad application joins the Rogers Video On Demand service and RogersOnDemand.com in the multi-screen viewing initiative.
