Nuit Blanche comes to town on Saturday, road closures to note

TORONTO, Ont. – The arts will bring people outside for the all-night Scotiabank Nuit Blanche event starting Saturday night.

The 12-hour festival starts at 6:57 p.m. Saturday and ends sunrise Sunday. In 2009, Nuit Blanche attracted close to one-million people.

The event’s Night Navigator App is available for iPhone, BlackBerry and Android users, allowing users to find the closest projects and upload event photos. The app can be downloaded at www.scotiabanknuitblanche.ca.

The following road closures will be in effect:

  • Yonge St. will be closed between Front and Bloor streets from 5 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday
  • Yonge St. will be closed between Queen and Richmond streets from noon Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday
  • Queen St. will be closed between Victoria St. and University Ave. from 5 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday. Streetcars will be permitted in the area
  • Bloor St. will be closed between Bedford Rd. and Yonge St. from 5 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday
  • Bay St. will be closed between Richmond St. W. and Dundas St. W. from 5 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday

The TTC is offering a $10 day pass, which will be valid from 9 a.m. Saturday until 9 a.m. Sunday.

Subways will be running all night until 7 a.m. Sunday on the Bloor-Danforth line between Keele and Woodbine stations and on the Yonge-University-Spadina Subway between St. Clair West and Eglinton stations. Trains will run every 10 to 15 minutes from 1:30 a.m. to 7 a.m.

In terms of the weather, 680News meteorologist Jill Taylor said those heading out to Nuit Blanche should dress in layers, as it will be a cooler weekend.
