Leafs Home Opener Goes Thurs.

Hopes are high, and some, maybe not so high as the Toronto Maple Leafs prepare to face off against their Original Six rival, the Montreal Canadiens, on Thursday night in the team’s season home opener.
The Buds and their fans will be hoping the team’s effort matches that displayed in their home opener against the Habs last year. Despite the show, the Leafs lost that game.
The last time Toronto won a home opener was in 2000, against Montreal.
Aside from a revamped lineup the Leafs may be at an advantage Thursday because Montreal defenceman Andrei Markov continues to recover from knee surgery, goalie Carey Price may not play due to illness and forward Mike Cammaleri will be off the ice because of a one-game suspension.
A chunk of Yonge Street, between Dundas and Queen, has been closed down for a party marking the Leaf’s first official home game of the 2010-11 season.
