Hundreds march in pre-Remembrance Day ceremonies

TORONTO, Ont. – Hundreds marched in pre-Remembrance Day ceremonies in downtown Toronto, Sunday.

At 11 a.m. a crowd of people gathered at Queen’s Park to mark a moment of silence.

Men and women of the 48th Highlanders stood silently by the cenotaph at Queen’s Park Circle, in full scarlet regimental dress complete with black bonnets.

Veterans being honoured included Herb James Pike, who was stationed in Italy during World War II.

“There’s a lot of things happened to us over there that we wanted to forget.” Pike told 680News, “Traumatic action, bombing, taking life.”

The Deputy Commanding Officer of the highlanders, Major Allen Best, told 680News he has seen a renewed vigor in Remembrance Day from the public because of the war in Afghanistan.
